Challenge
Describe clinical characteristics, treatment patterns, and clinical outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma who are not undergoing stem cell transplant.
Solution
- Medical chart review study in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
- Ethics submissions were approached as follows:
- France: The study was granted exempt status from Pearl IRB
- Germany: The study was granted exemption by the Ethik-Kommission der Bayerischen Landesärztekammer
- Italy: Ethics committee approval was granted at each institution. In accordance with legal requirements, patients granted consent for data collection
- Spain: Ethics committee submission Ethics committee approval was granted at each institution. In accordance with legal requirements, patients who were alive at the time of data collection were informed of data collection
- UK: Classified as a service evaluation
- A total of 949 patients were enrolled at 178 study sites.
- Key outcomes included use of cytogenetic testing, treatment regimens prescribed, duration of therapy, best response, progression-free survival, and overall survival.
- Results were stratified by country and regimen type (oral vs. injectable).
Outcome
Highlighting under-use of cytogenetic testing to inform treatment selection and oral regimens that are more convenient for patients.
